Copy and Paste Large Cities and States List for Google Ads Negative Keyword Lists

If you manage Google Ads for your company or for many companies, you will sometimes notice pesky city or state names coming up in your search terms that are irrelevant to you. This happens a lot if you are targeting a large geographic area, but are only trying to get people focused on your location. For example, a vacation based service or a company pushing registrations for a destination event in a certain city. For example, if you are having a fishing conference in Seattle and want to target the entire US for terms related to fishing conferences, you don’t want to advertise to people specifically searching for fishing conferences combined with other cities or states. Alas, it can be frustrating to put these lists together and have them in the right format, so I have done it for you, with the help of a file from GitHub for the top cities. Just remove your targeted city or state and add the rest as negatives. Save a lot of time searching around or manually entering. I have put the states and cities in long column form so they are easy to copy and then paste into negative keywords in Google Ads. You’re welcome.
